What is Endoscopy

Endoscopy is an examination of the Digestive tract by passing a slim and elongated Endoscope into the Stomach, Large Bowels, Bronchus or Urinary Bladder, which allows direct vision and accurate diagnosis. Biopsy and Photographs can be taken at the same time.

Why do I need an Endoscopy

In Hong Kong, 10% of the population aged between 20-50 as digestive ulcerative diseases (age between 20-50). It is felt that most ulcers and gastritis are caused by our lifestyle factors such as poor diet, poor dietary habits; too much stress, heavy drinking and smoking. However, the latest medical research has shown that these ailments may be closely associated with Helicobacter Pylori. As the Helicobacter invades the stomach lining, it disrupts the protective mucous layer and allows the corrosive stomach acids to come in direct contact with the delicate tissues below. This can then lead to peptic ulcers and stomach inflammation.

Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers and also the most preventable one. This is because the majority of colon cancers begin as a small non-cancerous growth tissue called a polyp. However, polyps grow silently and eventually can turn cancerous. This cancerous transformation may take a long time even though the patient may feel perfectly normal. By the time the patient have any symptom to arouse his concern it could be too late. Intestinal Polyp can be found through colonoscopic polypectomy also can be done during procedure. If bowel habit changes suddenly, stool with blood and mucus that person should have a colonoscopy done.

The person who has a family history of colon cancer then the person should have the person should have colonoscopy too.
