Pathology Department

The Pathology Department, established in 1981, is staffed by well-trained and qualified technologists. The director is Dr. Arthur Lee, who was formerly an associate professor at Harvard Medical School and consultant at Lahey Clinic, Boston, USA.

Our comprehensive diagnostic services include surgical pathology, cytopathology (including liquid-based monolayer technique), fine needle aspiration interpretation, intra-operative frozen section diagnosis, tissue tumour marker immunohistochemical studies, and bone marrow biopsy and peripheral smear interpretation.

Laboratory

Our Clinical Laboratory is a 24 hour full-service lab with a wide range of tests including all routine tests microbiological tests and many specialized tests including therapeutic drugs, drugs of abuse, cancer amrkers, hormones, and PCR-based tests. It is a referral centrer for a number of local commerical labs.

Is is a modern lab equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and is almost entirely automated. Our labratory information system starts with bar coding for all the specimens, computerized registration, and automated reporting. The system has the capability to provide rapid data retrieval, cumulative reports, and workload recording.

Our staff are all registered with the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board and are actively involved with continuing professional education and development.
