What is Sleep apnoea?

It is a condition when there is periodic cessation of breathing during sleep. The breathing may stop from 10 seconds to 1 minute until the patient woke up suddenly and resume normal breathing. These frequent episodes of apnoea will lead to chronic hypoxia and will increase the work loads to the heart & lung causing permanent damage. Some patients with poor heart function will even die of anoxia.

Symptoms of sleep apnoea:

  • Loud snoring, periodic cessation of breathing.
  • Frequent arousal at night
  • Fatigue even after sleep
  • Can fall into sleep at any time and any condition
  • Headache after woken up
  • Slow response
  • Change in character
  • Deterioration in memory
  • Poor libido
